JEAN-BAPTISTE CHARCOT BECAME A DOCTOR TO FULFILL HIS FATHER’S WISH, BUT ONCE HE GRADUATED, HE SET SAIL ON HIS FIRST SHIP, THE POURQUOI-PAS?.

Transitioning from yachtsman to explorer, he led two expeditions to Antarctica: from 1903 to 1905 aboard the Français, and from 1908 to 1910 on a new Pourquoi-Pas?. During World War I, he served as a naval doctor and later as the commander of an anti-submarine ship.
In 1936, he disappeared off the coast of Iceland aboard the Pourquoi-Pas? IV. A French rugby champion in 1896, he also won two silver medals in sailing at the 1900 Paris games!
