The history of the productPARIS-BREST
TO PROMOTE HIS DAILY NEWSPAPER "LE PETIT JOURNAL", PIERRE GIFFARD CREATED THE PARIS BREST PARIS BICYCLE RACE IN 1891.
The race also marked the beginning of the bicycle's popularity, as it gradually replaced the Grand Bi, considered less practical and more dangerous. The organisation accepted all models of bicycle, but it was forbidden to change machines during the 1,200-kilometre race, completed in 7 days.
For the first race in 1891, 211 riders set off, and 100 were lucky enough to finish. The winner, Charles Terront, completed the race in 71 hours and 22 minutes.
Five more editions were held until 1931, followed by two in 1948 and 1951. It was then that the race took on the appearance of a randonneur, becoming a “randonneur” race, which is still organised today.
