ALVIN KRAENZLEIN CONQUERS THE HURDLES WITH HIS REVOLUTIONARY TECHNIQUE IN PARIS!
Alvin Kraenzlein, a young American athlete from Minneapolis, has just won the final of the 200-meter hurdles, after winning the 60 and 110 metre finals with ease. His secret: jumping hurdles on the fly. His technique consists of extending his leading leg, thus limiting time wasted on obstacles. Once revolutionary, the Kraenzlein technique is now the standard for all athletes.
Hurdle racing is said to have originated in England in the 1850s, from students who wanted to run a race with obstacles after watching a horse race. The first race was held in Oxford, using wooden bars as hurdles, reminiscent of equine inspiration.
