IT WAS DURING A SOUTH AFRICAN TOUR IN 1965 THAT THE ARGENTINES EARNED THE NICKNAME "PUMAS".

Legend has it that when a journalist named the Argentine players by their team's emblematic animal, he confused the puma with the jaguar. But the speckled coat of the Jaguar is far from the uniform coat of the Puma! The journalist's mistake will forever remain the nickname of the Argen-tines. It should be noted that the tour was a success for the newly named "Pumas" who for the first time beat the "Springbok Juniors" team.
