The history of the productLES PAVÉS

UNDER THE COBBLESTONES THE BEACH, THIS EXPRESSION DOES NOT FIT IN THE VOCABULARY OF CYCLISTS!

Some competitions have made this pavement and the associated efforts legendary...The race held every year on the northern cobblestones is the most famous and represents one of the highlights of spring for cycling enthusiasts. Dating back to the end of the 19th century, it is reported that at the second edition in 1897 "the populations of the north had risen with violence against the idea that the riders could not go to mass on Easter day" so a mass was celebrated at 4 o'clock in the morning, just before the start at Porte Maillot!

One wonders if the expression "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" does not come from the "toughest of the tough", one of the oldest events on the cycling calendar...
