IN 1968, WORLD TENNIS EXPERIENCED A REVOLUTION!

Since 1877, only amateurs could participate in tennis tournaments, with professionals excluded. Professionals turned to exhibition matches, earning- thousands of dollars, while competitions offered nothing. This system led to a loss of talent in the sport. In 1968, the authorities decided to open tournaments to both professionals and amateurs, marking the beginning of the Open Era. This decision transformed tennis, attracting a larger audience, offering a bigger spectacle, and increasing its prestige.
