The history of the productBelle de match

« Belle de Match »: To all the ladies on the courts…

With the expression “belle de match”, we would like to celebrate women’s tennis. The first international tournaments were organized at the end of the 19th century, in London (1884), Philadelphia (1887) and Paris (1887).

The first women’s tennis star was French. Suzanne Lenglen, nicknamed La Divine (the Goddess), won 6 grand Slams. Her style was graceful, elegant and yet very efficient. Other tennis players who were less famous had wonderful career paths. Hence, the Spanish Countess Alvarez Lili, outstanding athlete, was an excellent tennis player. 3 times in a row nalist at Wimbledon (1926, 1927 and 1928), she won the double event in Paris in 1929. She was also the Spanish ski, figure skating and pool table champion! To cap it all, Alvarez also managed to win a car rally at 19 years old.

Another « Belle de Match » with a unique destiny is the American Althea Gibson. She was the first black player to participate in a grand slam tournament in 1950, overcoming the racial segregation of that time. Renowned for her unique service, she also won 3 grand slams (1956, 1957 et 1958) before becoming the first black player of the women’s professional Golf circuit! Professional Golf circuit!
