A tribute to Lucien Petit Breton,

first champion to win 2 consecutive Tour de France, in 1907 and 1908.

Why Petit Breton? At 16, Lucien Mazan (born in Pléss, Brittany) lives in Argentina where his parents had immigrated. He won a bicycle in the lottery and began training intensively. Little by little, his passion for cycling developed and he especially followed the news of French competitions in sports magazines. His father strongly disapproved of competitive cycling, which he considered as an unnecessary distraction and thought runners were clowns. Lucien Mazan entered the Argentine races under the pseudonym "Breton", in reference to his native region, and as a way of hiding his participation to his father. He quickly succeeded in becoming champion of Argentina on track in 1899, aged 17, then on road. He then came to France and chose the pseudonym "Petit Breton" to distinguish himself from a homonym!

Proudly manufactured in partnership with the National Sports Museum.
