The history of the productNYC 1970
At the end of the 60's, in the cities, on the roads, in nature, people start to run to maintain or improve their health.
Races appeared and in 1970 it was the first edition of the NYC marathon. The 127 competitors present, who all paid a $1 registration fee, ran several loops around Park Drive in Central Park. Only about 100 spectators were able to watch Gary Muhrcke's victory in 2 hr 31 min 38 s. For this first edition, only 55 runners crossed the finish line.
Today, the New York Marathon is certainly the most famous marathon and one of the biggest in terms of participants (more than 50 000 in 2019!). Moreover, facing overwhelming requests to participate, the Marathon has now set up a lottery system.
