He then worked as a caddy at the Biarritz’s golf club and got a taste for golf while learning at a very quick pace. When he was 16, he won the caddies’s tournament and received as a reward a medal and a «Louis d’or» which he confessed to have always kept for the rest of his life. Following this victory, Sir Everad Hambro took the young Frenchman to Scotland to refine his skills.

He kept adding to his prize list up until the first world war, when he was called up and was injured at Verdun.
This slowed his career but Arnaud Massy managed to win the International French championship in 1925. Arnaud Massy learned to play golf left handed, his weak side, because the only club he had was a one he found, and was designed for a lefty! Later he made himself relearned the game and all the shots as a right handed player.
