Here is a Rugby World Champion jersey! This is a replica of the jersey Puig Aubert gave to the French National Sports Museum after the French rugby league team’s tour of Australia. Shut down by the Vichy government in 1941, the French Federation of Rugby League was re-born with a bang after the war in 1951. The team was captained by Puig Aubert, better known by the nick-name Pipette. The weekly newspaper L’Equipe called him a champion of champions in that year, 1951! Why World Champion ? In 3 matches against Australia who dominated at this time, 2 draws and a win. The drop in the corner from 60 metres that sealed the win was kicked by Pipette. When the French arrived in Marseille in September 1951 a crowd of over 100 000 people were there to greet them!
