History of the product

The inspired GB XIII

This red and blue jersey has been worn by the British team since 1924.

This jersey is inspired by the one worn by the “Lions” during the very first Rugby League World CUP in 1954. Made up of the best players from England, Wales, and Scotland, they achieved a historic performance by winning the tournament. They defeated France by a score of 16 to 12 against the host country and best Rugby League team back then. At the Parc des Princes, in front of more than 30,000 spectators, the British resisted the pressure by holding their advantage in the last minutes.

It was one of the only chances for the French team to be crowned since they would play only one other final, in 1970. Great Britain would add more two triumphs to their name in 1960 and 1972.

As shown in the movie “This Sporting Life” (1962), this sport became a true path to success for the working class thanks to its professionalisation in the beginning of the 20th century. The player’s pay was as sort of a compensation for the work time they lost while playing Rugby.
